Canberra Women & Babies in collaboration with Joanna Lewis, the founder of Super Safety Mum, warmly invite you to our CPR, Viral Illnesses, and Choking Prevention & Management Course (2.5 hours).
This hands-on, small-group, face-to-face, accredited CPR course is designed to provide expectant parents, new parents, grandparents and other caregivers with the knowledge, essential life-saving skills, and confidence to deliver emergency first aid for infants, children and adults.
Using practical, performance-based scenarios, participants will learn how to:
Respond to an emergency situation
Manage breathing and cardiac emergencies in a first aid setting
Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an infant, child & adult
Accurately convey incident details to emergency services
Understand how and when to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
In addition*, participants will also learn how to:
manage a choking emergency in an infant or child
recognise and manage common viral illnesses in infants and young children.
This course is facilitated by Joanna Lewis. Jo is a passionate and dedicated Registered Nurse with over 20 years of experience in clinical and managerial roles across several nursing specialties, including Emergency, Medical and Surgical care, Women's and Children's Health, and Hospital Operations. She holds postgraduate qualifications in Critical Care, Professional Healthcare Education, and Medical Retrieval. Jo thrives on helping others grow and is particularly passionate about supporting new and expectant parents.
This is a baby-friendly course. Infants under the age of 12 months are warmly welcomed.

Important note: This is an accredited course for CPR only (HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation). For an accredited certificate to be issued, the online prior learning must be completed, and CPR must be performed on the floor with no exemptions. The "Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation" certificate is valid for 12 months. The Code of Practice and Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that cardiopulmonary resuscitation skills are refreshed annually.
Participants who complete the face-to-face training but do not complete the online prior learning will be issued with a non-accredited information session certificate.
*The additional teaching related to choking and viral illnesses are non-accredited components of this session.
Clothing: We suggest that you wear comfortable casual clothing, as the practical nature of the demonstrations and practice may possibly require bending, kneeling and lying on the floor. Please wear or bring socks. Pants and flat shoes are recommended.
